Black Series Darth Vader & Luke Skywalker
Darth Vader is a powerful Sith Lord and chief enforcer of the Galactic Empire. Formerly the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, he is obsessed with finding Luke Skywalker, whose destruction of the Death Star posed a threat to the Empire. Vader orchestrates an attack on the Rebel base at Hoth and relentlessly pursues Luke and his friends across the galaxy. He manipulates events in Cloud City, capturing Han and Leia and ultimately dueling Luke in a climactic lightsaber battle. Vader overpowers Luke, severs his hand, and reveals that he is Luke’s father, while attempting to lure him to the dark side to overthrow the Emperor.
By the time of The Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker has become a Commander in the Rebel Alliance. After barely surviving a wampa attack on Hoth and participating in the defense of the Rebel base, Luke follows the vision of Obi-Wan Kenobi to train with Jedi Master Yoda on Dagobah. He rapidly develops his skills with the Force but leaves his training unfinished upon foreseeing his friends in danger. On Cloud City, Luke confronts Darth Vader, and in their intense duel, learns the truth of his parentage. Refusing Vader’s offer to join him, Luke escapes but is gravely wounded, losing his hand. He is ultimately rescued by Leia and his friends, and returns to the Rebel fleet with a new mechanical hand and a deepened resolve.
