Silver Surfer, whose real name is Norrin Radd, is first presented in Silver Surfer #1 (1968) as a profoundly noble and tragic figure. Born on the idyllic planet Zenn-La, Norrin Radd volunteered to become the herald of the cosmic entity Galactus in exchange for sparing his homeworld from destruction. Transformed into the Silver Surfer and wielding the vast Power Cosmic, Norrin gained a silvery, nearly invulnerable body and the ability to travel faster than light on his iconic cosmic surfboard.
