Red Hood, known in civilian life as Jason Todd, is a fiercely independent, complex anti-hero from DC Comics and the Bat-family. Once the second Robin, he was murdered by the Joker and later resurrected, which led to his transformation into the vengeful vigilante Red Hood.
Origins and Early History
Jason Todd began as a troubled orphan living on the streets of Gotham, resorting to theft and quick thinking for survival. Batman found him trying to steal the wheels off the Batmobile, and recognizing his potential, adopted and trained him to become the new Robin after Dick Grayson’s departure.
Death and Resurrection
Jason’s career as Robin ended tragically when he was killed by the Joker in the famous “A Death in the Family” storyline, a decision controversially made by fan vote. Years later, he was revived by the mystical Lazarus Pit, orchestrated by Talia al Ghul, but returned to Gotham traumatized and driven by rage.
Becoming Red Hood
Unable to reconcile Batman’s avoidance of lethal force or avenge his own death through traditional justice, Jason adopted the Red Hood moniker—ironically, the same one once used by the Joker before his transformation. As Red Hood, Jason became notorious for his brutal and often deadly methods, challenging Batman’s moral code and often acting as both adversary and uneasy ally.
